Naming inanimate objects is stupid...

I am making a statement, here and now, and afterwards it must become a law. There must be no more naming of cars. Seriously folks, naming your car is stupid. You yourself did not make the car. A small japanese man did, and he named it, leave that name, as it is. When people ask you, what kind of a car you have, don't say "David" or "Jimmy" or "one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater" or "Led" meant for Led Zeppelin (cute dumb smile here). The thing that strikes me as funny, is the type of people who name their cars. It's the type of people whose car substitutes for a place to throw all their shit. Food wrappers, text books, tampon holder and clothes. Yes, the car is truly your most prized possession. You named your moving garbage can. So seriously everyone, stop naming your cars, we know you're trying to be cute, and by God, you're not, it's sad, really, aren't we all done acting like five year olds?

P.S. And the next time someone offers me a ride, and tell me to get inside "Humphrey," I'm going to give them the finger and take the bus

Just curious. Do you also have a problem with boats being named? Because that's pretty similar, and I don't think captains and builders (or whoever names those them) are trying to be "cute."

And I'd be more careful about comparing your friends to five-year-olds when you're the one who doesn't have a license.

No, I don't think the same thing of fishing boat captains, since it's a law to have a boat name to be categorized in ship harbors and ports. So no, to answer your question, since it's a law, I don't view them quite as faggy! And I don't have my license out of choice, because I don't have a car that mommy and daddy bought and pay the gas for. So, if you think about it, I'm just full of angst for not having my own car to name after some stupid hobby. Please note: Sarcasm in the previous statement was heavy handed. And I can call my friends, whatever I want, because they're MY friends, they belong to ME! And I shall give them all stupid nick names, like "woof woof", "Chub chub" and "Flower power" and let's not forget the ever so popular "Dumb shit" with his/her powers of amazing pain to the brain

I think it is a way for some people to take better care of something. You know, like in Full Metal Jacket. You name your gun a girls name so that you will always take care of it. You do have a point though about naming it and then just treating it like a garbage can.

This is okay, because a gun kicks fucking ass!

it seems only right that we name our cars becuase we generally yell at them. when your call stalls and you're pissed off it just doesn't have the same umfph to yell "DAMN YOU CAR!" as it would to yell "DAMN YOU (insert name here)!!" it helps to release road rage. it's not like we think our cars are people and talk to it (expecting a response). yelling, pleading, and striking your car helps you feel like you have more control over your vehicle than just where it goes and how fast.

Do you also name your Ipod? Computer? Cell phone? Laundry machine? electirc Razor? Blow dryer? TV? Cable box? DVD player? Keg opener? Video camera? Myspace? LJ? The weather? or any other thing that malfunctions? What about a period? You can call it "Old Faithful"

I personally don't see why it matters. If I want to name my car, then I will. I feel like I have a special bond with the big hunk of metal that gets me from point A to point B safely. My car is not a trash can, my car is not a locker, my car is simply a car. But he's gotten me through some tough stuff, and so, if I want to get friendly with my Jeep, then so be it. I'm not trying to be cute, or funny or clever. It's just something I wanted to do. :)

Note: this had no mean undertone. Simply what my opinon is. I'm not trying to rile you up or get some mean, sarcastic response in return.

If people want to name shit, that's one thing, it's when people make an announcment, like anyone else cares if a car is named "Rudabega Vagina Gym" I simply don't care for it, that's all, now if someone got knocked up in "rudabega Vagina Gym" now we have a diffrent story. There are two levels. The people who name the car and tell a person or two and leave it at that. And then there's the person who names the car, tells everyone the name of the car, refers to the car like a dog, and so on and so on. For FUCK SAKE it's just "Rudabega Vagina Gym"

Okay. Cameron. To me, livejournal is a JOURNAL. You write about your day, maybe trivial funny things that happened. It just happens to be a journal other people can read, if they feel like it. It's not as if by writing in livejournal I was calling up every person in my phone book and telling them, "Hey! I named my car!" or even determinedly telling every person who got in it. I was just reflecting on the information, and should other people care, that's fine. If not, there's no need for you to GO ON AND ON about it. Just DON'T READ IT, if it bothers you so much.

And it's not as if people take naming their car SERIOUSLY. It's just a light hearted discussion point. Heaven forbid a little levity.
